#10Days10Acts: Global Unity Games

Global Unity Games: Tomorrow Together

September 11 – 21, 2016

VolunteerNow is taking part in an international movement to bring about unity in communities around the world through compassionate action and service. The community is invited to get involved, take action and let compassion rule in the Global Unity GamesTomorrow Together, September 11 to 21, 2016.

The Global Unity Games is a challenge that begins on 9/11, a National Day of Service and Remembrance, and continues through 9/21, the International Day of Peace to bring people around the world together striving toward a better tomorrow through collective acts of service and kindness.  This year marks the 15th anniversary of September 11thand the 35th annual International Day of Peace.

There are many ways individuals and groups can play, from organizing creative service projects to performing intentional acts of kindness that promote peace, unity and dignity in our communities. The games begin with our virtual opening ceremony on September 11 commemorating the 15th anniversary of 9/11 Day, and then continues with VolunteerNow's 10 Days, 10 Acts compassion initiative.

"Virtual" Opening Ceremony: Honor Those Lost on 9/11 Day

On September 11, a National Day of Service and Remembrance, pay tribute to those who lost their lives and observe the 15th anniversary of 9/11 Day through charitable service and good deeds. Discover ways you can positively impact the community at VOLY.org. Create a culture of caring and help youth turn empathy into action by supporting the Rules of Kindness campaign, powered by Hasbro. The campaign encourages kids and teens to create, share and act upon their own Rules of Kindness.

Join VolunteerNow in #10Days10Acts of Compassion and Kindness!

VolunteerNow is encouraging the community to promote the ideals of unity, empathy and service through 10 Days, 10 Acts. Your mission is to accept the challenge and perform a compassionate act each day over the next 10 days. Goal is to complete all acts of compassion - no matter where you choose to begin!

Tune In, Not Out: Engage in your community on your walk or commute to work by unplugging from your phone and tuning in to what's around you. Say hello to someone walking by or smile at someone across from you on the bus.

Neighbor Check-In: September is National Preparedness Month. Communicate and share with your neighbor preparedness information and resources.

Commit to a Cause: Find your passion and brighten someone's day volunteering. Find an upcoming opportunity on VOLY.org.

Play at the Park: Find a park in your community and spend lunch having a picnic, taking a walk, or playing your favorite game (others will join in if invited to play!). Brown bag lunch and donate the money you would have spent eating out to a charity of your choice. Maximize your donation by giving on North Texas Giving Day!

Attend Peace Day Dallas: Starting 9/16 through 9/21, Dallas will host a variety of events using fine art, music, sports, food and dance to bring the community together in celebration of Peace Day Dallas 2016.
